Wall sconces

Indoor wall lamps and sconces for ambient, reading, or pathway lighting. By room: bedroom, bathroom, hallway and entryway, and stairs. By use: sconces with reading lights, mirror lights, and picture lighting. For outdoors, check out our outdoor sconces.

How to choose a wall sconce

1. Height

As a guide, place them between 1.60 and 1.80 m from the floor in hallways, living rooms, and on stairs. Next to a bed, roughly at head height when sitting up (1.20 to 1.50 m from the floor).

2. Direction of light

Sconces that project light upward and downward provide ambient lighting and highlight the wall. Adjustable or swing-arm models are ideal for reading. Those with opal shades distribute soft light in all directions.

3. Bathroom

Near the sink or shower, the sconce must have an IP44 rating or higher.

4. Light color

2700 to 3000 K for bedrooms and living rooms; 4000 K if the sconce illuminates a mirror or a workspace.
